Two tons of Vietnamese Star Apple were first exported to the US

According to information from Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam’s Star Apple were first exported to the US.

Doan Van Sang – Director of Agricultural Products Company in Tien Giang, Vietnam, said that 2 containers Vietnam’s Star Apple were exported to the US(equivalent to 2 tons). According to Mr Sang, Vietnam’s Star Apple must ensure that the three basic requirements are plantation, packaging and irradiation, all certified and granted by the US. This is good news for Vietnam’s agricultural sector as a whole and for Tien Giang’s farmers in particular.

Together with litchi, longan, rambutan and dragon fruit, star apple is the fifth Vietnamese fruit allowed to be sold in the market.  Star Apple Lo Ren Vinh Kim is one of the famous Vietnamese Star Apple in Tien Giang, Vietnam. There are about 1.1000 hectares of Star Apple.

As of the end of November 2017, the export value of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables (over 80% of fruits) was estimated at 3.16 billion USD, up 43.2% over the same period.

In particular, the US is the third largest market with annual turnover reached nearly 85 million. Vietnam was also the first country to be licensed to export Vietnamese Star Apple to the United States. It is forecasted that in the year 2017, fruit and vegetable exports in Vietnam could reach USD 3.5 billion, an increase of USD 1 billion compared to 2016.
