Fresh Vietnamese Mango
Dao Tran Nhan, Trade Minister Counselor and Vietnam Trade Office Chief Rep in the US, said the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved the import of Vietnamese Mango in the country.
He said the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) has announced the license to allow fresh mangoes from Vietnam to enter the US market from December 29, 2017.
However, Fresh Vietnamese Mango must be subject to restrictions, including orchard and packinghouse requirements, irradiation treatment, and port of entry inspection. It is also required to be imported in commercial consignments accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate given by Vietnam’s Plant Security Department, with an additional declaration stating that the consignment was inspected and found free from Macrophoma mangiferae and Xanthomonas campestris photo voltaic. mangiferaeindicae.
This can be one of the outcomes of the two countries’ commitments to opening up trade between both equally sides that their leaders made during US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Vietnam (from 10 to 12/11/2017).
Vietnamese Mangoes are grown mostly in southern Vietnam’s provinces such as Tien Giang,Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Can Tho, and some northern regions like Son La, Ha Giang, Lai Chau. There are several kinds of mangoes in Vietnam: the yellow ones with sweet and soft meat including “xoai cat chu” “xoai cat hoa loc” , “xoai tuong”, “xoai ngua”; and the green sour ones “xoai xanh”.
